122. William* 8 COMBS Old Buckery831,1088,1089,1090,1091,1092,1093 was born in Sep 1757 in Frederick Co. (?), VA.1094 As given by himself in his pension application. He appeared in the census in 1810 in Casey Co., KY. p 39:

He died on 8 Mar 1840 in , Fayette Co., KY.1094 He appeared in the census in 1840 in Lexington, Fayette Co., KY.1095 He enlisted in Stovers Town (now Strasbourg, Shenandoah Co., VA) , Continental Line as an orderly sergeant, under Capt. Richard Campbell, 8th VA Regiment of Col. Mulenburg and Col., Abram Bowman. Had a dispute with William Settle in 1778, Shenandoa Co., VA. Believed to have been the Revolutionary War veteran: A Wm Coombs is in Captain John Holder's Company, June 10, 1779 (in Madison Co., at and near Boonesborough). This appears NOT to be the Wm Combs who later lived in Bath Co., KY and petitioned for a pension as an indigent. (opinion of RJT)

On the personal property tax list with one white poll, no blacks, two horses an 5 head of cattle in 1782 Listed as a debtor of his father John. Listed again in 1783 with same. Listed on a state enumeration with 5 white soulds. Defendant in Mar 1783 in a suit of Samuel Porter. Appointed Constable to replace John Allensworth at the same time. Listed in 1784 with only 3 head of cattle. In 1785 he is listed with one white poll, one slave over 16, two horses and 4 head of cattle. Still a constable. The state enumeration shows him with six white soulds and one dwelling. Listed in 1786 with one white poll, no blacks, one horse and 3 head of cattle. Sat on a jury that year in a suit between Solomon and Gilbert Combs (no relation) Also sat on a jury in a case involving Zur, Solomon and Gilbert Combs of Passage Cr. NJ. Listed in 1787 with one white poll, no whie polls 16021, 1 black over 16, 4 horses and 4 cattle. In 1788 and 1789 he lists one white poll, no blacks, 4 horses. in 1790 he has one less horse. In 1791 he lists two white polls and six horses. In 1792 one white poll and 8 horses. and this is the last appearance in Shenandoah Co., VA. In 1795 he appears in Lincoln Co., KY. On 27 Sep 1797 he entered 500 acres on Whit Oak Creek in Lincoln Co., KY. This land became part of Casey Co., KY in 1806.

On 8 Aug 1797 he was appointed Constable and took the oath after executing his bond with Pierce Wade. This was Constable Precinct #4 which began at the mouth of the Hanging Fork, and down Dicks River to the Mercer Co. line and west far enough to include the William Combes plantation and from there to Knob Lick Creek at Isaac Shelby's plantation and down the same road and the Hanging Fork to the beginning..

On 2 Jul 1798 he consents to the marriage of his daughter Lettice to Ebenezer Blackiston. On 6 Aug 1798 he consents to the marriage of his daughter Wilmoth to Henry Banta. Listed on 6 Aug 1899 in Lincoln Col tax list. On 5 Apr 1803 he consents to the marriage of his daughter Polly to Henry Duncan.

William COMBS is listed on the 8/16/1800 Lincoln Co KY tax list. This may be the William COMBS of Shenandoah Co VA, Lincoln, Clay, Bath, Fleming & Fayette Cos, KY, and brother to John COMBS of Shenandoah Co VA, Lincoln, Clay, Perry & Washington Co., KY.
Deeded 1200 acres in Casey, Washington Co., KY on Rolling Fork and White Oak Creek. on 11 Jun 1810.

Removed from Fayette Co., KY to Perry Col, KY after the death of his brother Mason in 1822.

A William Coombs 1. WILLIAM COMBS on 6 SEP 1835 was deeded in Lewis Co.:the SE quarter of the NE quarter of sec 28 T62 R6W.
