2378. Anthony* BESSEY1170,1396,2516,2517,2518,2519,2520 was born about 1609 in , , England. He
signed a will on 10 Feb 1656/57.2521
It mentioned his wife Jane, sons Nehemiah and David, and daughters Dorcas, Ann,
Mary, and Elizabeth. The inventory of Anthony's estate was taken on 21 May 1657.
One provision of the will stated that if his mother sent anything over from
England as she had formerly done, it was to be divided among all. He died in
1657 in Sandwich, Barnstable Co., MA?.2522
Passenger on the James which left England in Jul 1635, arriving in Boston Sept,
that year. He was listed as age 16. Lived first at Lynn and then a first settler
at Sandwich 1637. "Anthony Besse is mentioned several times in the
records of Sandwich. He received one acre of meadow land in the land division
of 16 April 1640. He was one of the 19 signers of the petition to their pastor,
Mr. Leveridge, in 1655. [Petition given on p. 100: "Loving Brother--It
is the ernest desier of our friends with ourselves, all whose names are under
wrighten, to incurrage by a cleare call to continue and imploy the spiritual
gift and tallant which God of his goodness and mercy hath bestoed uppon you hopping
yt if it please ye Lord to incline your hart to answere as in our desiers wee
will not bee---to recompence your labor of love."] Anthony pledged 10 shillings
on 29 May 1655 toward the building of the meeting house. He was on a list dated
23 March 1654/55 of those who made payments to the town, paying three shillings."

MA. 2379. Jane* ANNABLE died in 1693

"Nehemiah's name appears frequently in the town records of Sandwich. The
town contracted with him and another man on 21 May 1674 to build a pound (cattle
enclosure) 'with a sofishent gate unto it, and to hange the gat.' The price was
15 pounds, and the work was to be finished by the time of the
June court. Nehemiah was listed as a freeman in 1678. He was owed one shilling
six pence by the town on 11 July 1678. He was owed one pound five shillings
for grand jury duty in 1680. The town approved on 18 August 1681 a payment to
Nehemiah Besse of 10 shillings for grand jury duty. He was included on a list
dated 24 March 1702/03 of men entitled to share lands at Sandwich." from
