Received patent 8119 on 40 acres in Cole Co., MO: NW 1/4 of NW 1/4 of sect 28 in T47N R15W on 2 Nov 1837 that he had paid $50 for on 4 Apr 1835 at the land office in Fayette, MO, H. L. Boone, Register. Obtained a patent on 40 acres in Cole Co., MO : SE 1/4 of NE 1/4 of Sect 23, T47N, R15W on 10 Jan 1840.f Obtained patent on 40 acres in Howard Co., MO 1 Aug 1849: NE 1/4 of SE 1/4 of sec 20, T42N R24W. Living in Springfield Twp, Henry Co., MO,in on 16 Sep 1850 as a farmer with a value of $1000. Obtained another patent on 40 additional acres there on 1 Feb 1851: SE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of sec 21, T42N R24W.

Living in Rough and Ready, Nevada Co., CA in 1870s where he ran a rooming house full of Chinese laborers in the mines around Grass Valley. Sold some land there to his son-in-law Floyd Farrar.

In 1893, at the time of Theodore Banta's book, their daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband lived in Ashland,Jackson Co., OR; son, Elbert, was in Elkhorn, MT, engaged in mining; son, Christopher, lived in Clinton, MO; son, William, was a doctor in Calistoga, Napa County, CA; daughter, Willmoth, lived with her husband in Linkville (now Klamath Falls), Klamath Co., OR; daughter. Louisa, lived in Mayfield, Santa Clara Co., CA; son, James Erastus, lived in Sacramento; son, Carter Don, was living in Pleasant Grove, CA; daughter, Talitha, died in 1873, and her husband lived in Pleasant Grove; Miranda died in 1873; and Octavia died in 1869. Henry* BANTA and Frances* 'Fannie'* CARLOS were married on 28 Dec 1826 in Maryville, Blount Co., TN.608 On her marriage registration her maiden name is nearly undecipherable. There is definitely no Don in front of it. The first three letters are probably Car. Later generations referred to her as Fannie Don Carlos. Frances was age 15. Served several years with the Home Guards; was a lieutenant. Eight children, four living - Dr. C. C. Banta, Windsor; W. S. of Columbia; Mrs. E. F. Snyder, Salt Lake City; Miss Artie, at the home. Their niece, Mrs. Otto Pechstein, was raised as their own daughter. --- C. C. Banta was born in Cole County, Missouri, (now Moniteau) January 1, 1833, and is the third in a family of twelve children of whom eight are now living. His father was Henry Banta, and his mother's maiden name was Fanny Don Carlos, of Spanish descent. Her father was a soldier of the revolutionary struggle, and fought in the battle of Cowpens. In 1848 his parents came to Henry County and settled on Tebo, where they lived until 1861, then emigrating to the Pacific Coast, where they are still living. In 1852 Mr. Banta went to California and remained there until 1857, engaged in mining and lumbering. On his return to Missouri he
settled on a farm. During a portion of the war he served in the militia. In 1866 he settled on his present farm, which consists of 640 acres, in a good state of cultivation. He is largely engaged in stock raising. Mr. Banta was married in Cooper County June 28, 1859, to Miss Mary Smith, a native of Cole County. They have four children living: Christopher C., William Sherman, Mary Frances and Artie. His niece, Bettie Banta is also a member of his family. Mr. Banta is a man of liberal views and is much interested in education, showing his interest by giving his children the advantages of the best schools in the state.

1995 chart. Date given in the American Book of Genealogy is 9 Nov 1841. She died in 1914 in Eureka, Walla Walla Co., WA.639 Attending school at age 8 in Springfield, Henry Co., MO in 1850. Attending school at age 16 in June 1860. In 1893, according to the Theodore Banta book, Louisa lived in Mayfield, Santa Clara County, CA. She was there as early as Apr 1889. Her daughter, Ella, was living in Spalding, Idaho, with husband, Hamilton Gans at the time of her death, not very far from Eureka.

Property included fruit trees and coal deposits. Crossed the plains with his family, starting from Henry Co., MO on 1 May 1861. Wagons drawn by oxen. His family brought several horses and cattle with them. The same wagon train included his niece Dora Jackson and a Dr. William Banta, his brother. In 1893, according to the Theodore Banta book, James lived in Sacramento,CA. Farmer. Later a missionary for the Seventh Day Adventists. He wrote a summary of his trip across the plains in 1935, 74 years after the event, when he was 86.
