2926. Aldert* Heymans ROOSA2120,2597,2598,2599,2600,2601,2602 was born about 1610 in Herwynen, Bommel, Holland. He signed a will before 27 Feb 1679 in Hurley, Ulster Co., NY.2597,2603,2604 He died on 27 Feb 1679 in Esopus, Ulster, NY. Or Hurley. The name is possibly of Spanish extraction. Came to America from harwyen or Herweyen, Gelderland, Holland, on the Waal river five miles west of Bommel, with his wife Hyntje and 3 children on the ship 'Spotted Cow,' under Captian Peter Lucas 15 Apr 1660. He settled in the Wildwyck District of Esopus (later Kingston) Ulster Co., NY.

He arrived with considerable property from Holland.

On 25 Dec 1660 he participated in the Lord's Supper at Esopus or Wildwyuck with others. Elder of the Dutch Church at Wildwyck and a guarantor of the Rev Hermanus Blom's salary.

Alloted lot #24 on 5 May 1661 in Wildwyck.

He was involved with 'defense' of the new settlement from the Indians, including laying out palisades. This work was stopped by the Indians because they said that they had not been paid the gifts promised them the fyear before (7 Apr 1663). The Indians attacked on 7 Jun 1663, when the gifts were not forthcoming.12 dwellings were burned and most of the inhabitants taken prisoner or killed. Some escaped to Wildwyck from the 'New Village,' including Roosa. Two of his children were prisoners. When the settlers were not supported by the governor they took matters into their own hands, many Indians were attacked and killed, and 25 of 65 prisoners rescued.. The English took over from the Dutch in 1664. Aldert led a revolt of the burghers in 1667 against the military authorities, called the 'Mutiny at Esopus.' He and other were tried before Cornelis van Ruyven one of the King's justices of the paece and sentenced on 3 May 1667 to banishment from the colony and a fine of 100 bushels of wheat (levied on his estate in Esopus). This sentence was later modified and Aldert and others were allowed to return to Wildwyck. He was appointed overseer of Hurley.

He received a patent for 10 acres and 450 rods at Hurley,, and made sergeant of the militia. He directed the militia at the rendezvous at Marbletown on 5 Apr 1670. On 7 Apr 167 he was appointed overseer of Hurley and Marbletown.

Appointed commisary for Hurley and Kingston on 25 Oct 1671 by Governor Lovelace, and again by Governor Colve on 6 Oct 1673.

As a result of a petition from delegates from Esoopus on 1 sep 1673 to the Dutch Governor of New Amsterdam, Aldert Heymans Roosa was appointed Catain of Hurley and Marbletown by Gov. Colve on 6 Oct 1673 and described as "Captain Aldert Heymans who had been prominent in the riot of 1667.' Aldert* Heymans ROOSA and Wyntie* Ariens DE JONGE were married in Herwynen, Gelderland, Holland.2602
