"To be buried in Laxfeld church, whereof I am a parishioner. To the high
altar 3s. 4d. To the stipend of the chaplain of the Gild of St. Mary in Laxfeld
6s.8d. yearly, for sixteen years. For the health of my soul and my friends' souls
I will that a chaplain shall celebrate in Laxfeld church for one year. For three
trentals for my soul 30s. To the new bells in Laxfeld 20s. To my wife Katherine
my utensis and moveables live and dead. To each of my three daughters £10
within a year of marriage; but, if any of them remain single, she shall enjoy
her portion. To my son William 40s. To my son Geoffrey 40s. To my elder son John
40s. To my daughter Margaret Devsing 40s. To my son Edmund 40s. If any of my
sons bring action against my executors for lands in Laxfeld and Eston Bavent
[Easton-Bavent, Co. Suffolk], he shall lose his portion of 40s. Residuary legatees
and executors: my wife Katherine, my younger son John, John Noloth, and Nicholas
Noloth.
To my wife Katherine lands in Laxfeld for life, with the remainder to my younger
son John, except 2 acres called Semams to my wife absolutely. If my younger son
John be disturbed, he shall compensate himself from my lands in Eston Bavent.
After his mother's decease, he shall give my executors £30. For the health
of my soul 10 marks."

Dowsyng, deceased, late of Laxfeld, to Simon Fysk, son of Hugh Fysk of Laxfeld,
two pieces of my land (2 1/2 acres) there in the hamlet of Stoodh[a]wgh in the
town of Laxfeld, between le Marketweye, W[est]; land of the said William Dowsyng,
E[ast]; land of the said Simon Fysk, N[orth]; said Marketweye and land
of John Sauage, S[outh]; to Simon Fysk, his heirs and assigns for ever.
Witnesses: Nicholas Stowe, Edmund Hurlich, RIchard Gleme, Robert Barker, John

Laxfield, and Studhaugh in particular, is the earliest known ancestral home
of the Fiske family. Studhaugh farmhouse as it exists today dates from the 16th
century, but Fiskes have lived on the site since the 14th century or earlier.
Daniel Fisc was recorded as living in Laxfield in 1208; the last Fiske of Studhaugh
died in about 1675. The Charters of 1421 and 1435 granted Simon land in Studhaugh
belonging to Wm Dowsing and in Laxfield belonging to Wm Seman of Norwich.
"Know all present and to come that I, Robert Coupere of Laxfeld, have demised,
enfeoffed, and by this present my charter have confirmed to Simon Fysk and William
Crysp, 'whelewryghte,' of Laxfeld aforesaid, all my lands and tenements, meadows,
feeding-grounds, pastures, ditches, rents, and services, with all their appurtenances
in Laxfeld, which I have of the gift, grant, and confirmation of Geoffrey Covpere,
my father, and which I have acquired of divers men, to have and to hold all those
the aforesaid lands and tenements, meadows, feeding-grounds, pastures, ditches,
rents, and services, - with alltheir appurtenances, to the aforesaid Simon Fysk
and Willliam Crysp, their heirs and assigns, of the chief lords of that fee by
the services therefrom due and by right accustomed for ever. In witness whereof,
to this present charter I have put my seal. These being witnesses, William Chatyng,
Henry Wylde, William Cone, Robert Pers, John Ede of Laxfeld aforesaid, and others."
