Jun 1722.
"I Robert Daniel, of Cambridge, in New England, weake in body, yet of sound
mind, make this my last will, Funerall expences discharged. Unto my wife Reana,
besides the part ofhe estate I received with herr uppon my marriage to her which
by covenant was to returne unto her againe at my decease, I give 40s a yeare
dureing her life, to be payed the one one half in fruite, viz, in apples etc.
and the other halfe in foure bushels of wheate. My will is, that my household
goodes be Equally divided Amongst m five Children viz to each a fift part. Also
that my eldest dau. the now wife of Thomas Fanning, shall have her fift part
imediatelyh after m decease, and the remainder to remaine with my sonne samuel,
untill his Brothers and sisters shall come of age, of Twenty one yeares or Mariage,
wich shall first happen. To my Couson Anna Newcomen, a young Cow, and to Elder
Frost 40s; to my daug. Elizabeth, the wife of Thomas Fanning, 50 pounds, to be
payd in Cattle & Corne, at or before the first of May next; unto my three
youngest Childdren, 50 pounds a peece, to be payd when they shall come to the
Age 21 yeares, or within one yeare after their Marriage, wich shall first happen,
or before, if my Executors shall desire the same. The remainder of my estate,
I give the whole, whether Reall or personall, unto my sonne Samuel, whom I nominate
as my Executor together with my sonne in law Thomas Fanning. And my Loveing
Friends Richard Jacson & Thomas Danforth I do hereby Ordayne Supervisors,
to see this my last will and testament faithfully executed, to whom I do also
in speciall comitt the care and idspose of my Chirldren, both in their minority
and in the change of their Condiccon by Mariage. My will is that if any of the
children decease before Mariage or Arivall to the Age of 12, then the portion
of such deceased shalbe to such as survive, and be equally divided Amongst them.
My will is, that my Executorss pay yearely, after my decease, unto my sonne
Joseph, and to my daus. Sarah and Mary, 5 pounds apeece, in Corne or cattle,
beginning the first payment in Aprill 1657, the wich payment of 5 pounds a peeced,
Annually, shalbe in part of the afore named 50 pounds a peece. It is mine intent
that the household goodes app'taneing to each of my Children shalbe in part of
the 50 ounds a peece. My will is that my dau. Elizabeth shall have liberty to
choose in the first place her part of the houssehold-stuffe, the whole being
first divided into five Equally parts. I further declare my mind, that the 40s
pr Annu., to my wife, shalbe payd yearly, the Apples at Such time as they are
gathered, and the wheate about the last of September, and the Executo's are to
deliver them at her house, shee sending her mare or a horse for the same. Also
what Thomas Fanning hath already received is to be in part of his 50 pound legacy.

Inventory of the estate whereof Robert Daniell, late Inhabitant at Cambridge
died, Seised, the 6th of July 1655.
Mentions ' a bill of 7th due from Martine Underwood, of Water-Towne, 7 pounds;
rent due from Tho: Fanning 1 pound; from Jno Spring, 1. 11s; one greate bible,
8s; a psalme booke 1s6d; one booke, tit: The soules Conflict, 2s 6d,; a booke
of Mr. Masons worke, 1s 8d; a booke of mr Rogers workes, 1s 4d; a booke of mr
Giffords workes, 6d; a booke of mr Mathers 6d; a booke called the Garden of Spll
flowers, 1s; a debt in Daniel Smiths hand, 6s; a debt due from Lewis Jones 56s;
mansion house, orchard & yardes, & 26 acres unbroken land, w4 acres broaken
land, 2 accres fresh meadow, 4 accres salt meadow, 2 accres remote meadow, 4
accres at Chesters meadow, 65 accres remote diveident, 29 accres 1/2 beyond the
great plaine lying in 2 lotts, 7 accres remote meadow, the whole vallued at 160
pounds.

Among the articles enumerated are - Cruse Jugs, 1s6d; a little porsnett, 5s;
black suite of Rash 1 pound; 4 yds of Lockerre, 9s 4d 3 Lockrm napkins 2s 3d;
a sleck stone 4d; 2 Lattin pans, 1s 8d; one Cowle, 3d; one great fatt 4s; 2 milk
kelars 1s 8d; 4 cheese motes 4s; a little kellar, 1s; 2 frowes, 4s; one passer
stocke 3 podds, 2s; one fier steele 1s. Arrived in America prior to Jul. 25,
1636 when Robert was granted 25 acres at Watertown, MA where he settled. Granted
5 lots. Purchased the homestall of Nicholas Jacobs: 13 Acres near a later U.S.
Arsenal. Admitted freman 14 mar 1638/1639. Moved to Cambridge in 1651. Released
from training Apr 1655. . His son Samuel came with him, but daughter Elizabeth
(age 2) came with her maternal grandfather. It may be supposed that this arrangement
was made due to the recent or expected birth of son Thomas about 1635. A constable
at Watertown in 1651, he removed to Cambridge about 1654, possibly encouraged
by both his second marriage and the
following entries in the Watertown records: "at ameting of the Select men
the 8/4/1654 Rebert Geneson and John Knap Complaining that Robert Daniell that
hee Did not fence his pportion within their feild -- It Did appeere by testymony
of Mr whitny and his owne Confession that all his Land was by his owne act in
agenerall feild with them and hee Could not make it appeere that he hath taken
himsefe orderly out The sentance of the Select men is that wher as it Dooth apeere
that Robert Daniel hath apaffell of Land within their feeld Containing 8 or 10
akers mor or Les, that he shal fence it by equall pportion with the rest of the
Comoners." "Vpon asecocond hearing of Goodman Daniell sute the towne
Dooth not see any thing to mooue them to alter their minds but Doe Judg him adelinquent
to the Towne 20 s fine according to the Towne order." Robert* DANIELL and

On road to CANADA (slain by Indians). Moved to Medfield, thence to Hadley,
MA about 1666. Moved to Deefield as first family there. When her husband killed
by Indians 29 Feb 1704 she was taken captive and killed on the way to Canada. |
