He appeared in the census in 1800 in Morgan District, Burke Co., NC.¹²²⁰ He signed a will on 1 Jan 1829 in , Madison Co., KY.¹²²¹ "This is my Last Will and Testament made this 1st day of January in the year of our Lord, Eighteen hundred and twenty nine being in my Sound mind and reason.

1st My Will is that my body be buried in decency and my funeral charges paid Amen.

2nd All my Debts to be paid.

3rd My Will is that all my children out of this State Patsey Thornton, John Owen, Walter Owen, William Owen, Frances Thorp, and Jemima Simms, Shall have only twenty Dollars cash.

4th The rest of my Children in Kentucky is to have the balance of my Estate (towit) Sally Orchard, Joicy Wilson, Polly Sullivan and Elizabeth Todd, Equally divided among them and the house hold furniture is to belong to Elizabeth Todd in ( ? ).

5th As to my Son Barnett Owen he has had his equal part of my Estate already and is entitled to no more of my estate.

Barnett (his mark "X") Owen " He died in 1829 in , Madison Co., KY.¹²²² Its possible that Barnett had an earlier wife, mother of his first two children and that he remarried a second time to Frances. This is conjecture on the basis of the third born girl's name and Weldon Thornton's note that he was married in 1770/1772. Purchased 146 acres in Cumberland Parrish along a branch of the Meherrin River for 26 pounds on 8 Aug 1771. This was sold to John Patterson for 40 pounds on 26 Oct 1772. Purchased 100 acres from Luke Thornton for 25 pounds on 8 Nov 1772. A Barnett Owen sold 200 acres for 75 pounds to Johnson Monroe on 14 May 1778 in Lunenburg Co., VA. A John Thornton sold 15 acres to Barnett Owen on 31 Oct 1780 for 10 pounds in Lunenburg Co. A list of taxpayers in Wilkes Co., NC in 1782 and 1790 includes a Barnet Owen. The 1790 census shows 1 man over 16 , 3 under 16, 7 females, and no slaves in a Barnet Owen household in Wilkes Co., NC. Barnett and Frances Owen sold 115 acres to Robert Mitchell on 12 Sep 1793 in Lunenburg Co., VA for 45 pounds. Moved to Madison Co., KY about this time. Settled on land betweeen Kinston and Speedwell near the community of Crookville. (Now S edge of Bluegrass Army Depot.) . A Barnet Owen was on a committee to frame a Baptist church covenant on 22 Jan 1797 on the Viney Fork of Muddy Cr. in Madison Co., KY. The only Barnett Owen in the 1800 census: in the Morgan District of Ashe Co., NC. 1810 Census in Madison Co., KY lists a Barnet Owen and his wife and a son Barnett Owins,(sic) Jr. Abbie J. Garrison claimed that the father of Martha Owens was from Wales, coming to SC before 1776. Barnett* OWEN and Frances* REED? were married in Lunenberg Co., VA.¹²²³

179. Frances* REED?¹²²⁴ was born in 1764 in , Madison Co., KY.^1225,1226 She died after 1820 in , Madison Co., KY.¹²²⁷ Listed as an heir in Wm Reed's will. In deed book 4 page 543 of Lunenburg Co., VA, indenture 6 Sep 1757 between Wm. Reed of Lunenburg Co., and Francis Owen of some 335 acres of land for 30#. Alta De ShazerCraft: 'East Goes West' 1981 notes Shookman or Royster as the last name, not Reed. Constance C. Barnum gives Whitlow as the surname. Children were:

	v.	John 'Leatherwood' OWEN1228 was born in 1775 in Lunenburg Co., VA. He died in 1846 in Bedford, Lawrence Co., IN.1229 He had his estate probated on 13 Nov 1846 in , Lawrence Co., IN.. Received $20 from his fathers will of 1829. Resided on Leatherwood Creek in Shawswich TWP, Lawrence Co., IN.
	vi.	Walter OWEN1218,1228 was born about 1777 in Lunenburg Co., VA.1226 He died in 1840 in Jackson Co., IN. Received $20 in his father's will of 1829. Moved to Jackson Co., IN.
