Cutter et al say that he died bef 10 Apr 1655 when his estate was granted to
his widow Mary. He was distroaught at the death of his son Edward Jr. at sea
and his health deteriorated after that news. He had his estate probated on 10
Aug 1655 in Exeter, Rockingham Co., NH.2398,2399 Inventory was attested on
2 Aug 1655 and valued at 211 pounds. The court required a certificate from Edward's
wife, Mary, signed by Edward's children, verifying that they did not contest
the transfer to her by deed of gift. This was complied with on 29 Sep 1655 when
John Leavitt, John Folsom, Daniel Cushing, John Gilman and Moses Gilman provided
their consents. Three were husbands of Edward's daughters Sarah, Mary and Lydia.
His other children predeceased him. Left Gravesend, England 26 Apr 1638, on
the ship Diligent with wife 3 sons, 2 daughters and 3 servants and 133 others
led by Rev. Robert Peck, arriving in Boston 10 Aug 1638. Settled in Hingham,
MA, admitted a freeman 13 Dec 1638. Deeded land in Hingham, MA by Nicholas Jacob
(brother -in-law). Granted land in Seekonk (aka Rehoboth), MA in 1641. Proprietor
and grantee of Seekonk, later Rehoboth, 1643, value 300 pounds. Moved to Ipswich
in 1647. Elected Selectman in Ipswich in 1649. Sold Hingham estate 1 Oct 1652.
Moved later to Exeter, MA, where he set up sawmills. Appears on the Town Books
of Exeter on 10 May 1652.
