He died on 13 Feb 1685 in Sandwich, Barnstable Co., MA. Name appears on list of men able to bear arms in Sandwich, 1643, together with Richard Burgess, Thomas Burgess Jr., William Swift, John Dingley, and others.. In Sandwich in 1637. Representative to the General Court in 1642; fought in the Narragansett War, 1645. Savage calls him "one of the chief men of the town." Through the agency of Captain Miles Standish he received a grant of land 3 March 1653 in Manomet, (aka Monument, lying to the north of Sandwich settlement, which was named Herring River Village (within the Township of Sandwich). The deed show that the land lay "to the Eastward of Thomas Burgis so sonne-in-lawes house," thus proving that Ezra Perry was then resident, though he probably did not yet own land, in Manomet. Had a grant of land in Duxbury, Plymouth Colony, 3 Apr 1637.

(Freeman) Ellis... "The Memorial of the Family of Thomas and Dorothy Burgess" (1865) and other printed accounts confind their identification to the dau. of Joseph and Patience Burgess to the designations given in his will. But Rebecca, b. 17 Jan 1667/8 [Sandwich Vital Records; Mayflower Descendant 14:171], m. ca 1692 Edward Rose (not Ross); and Dorothy, b. 12 Nov 1670, m. ca 1689, Savery Clifton and had a number of children per Rochester Vital Records. Proof via deed 16 Mar 1714/5 "Wee... being the children of Joseph Burge of sd Rochester, late deceased... (relinquish our rights)... which our father by his last will and Testament... approved... ye 3 day of Oct. 1695 gave unto our brother Benjamin Burge unto his heirs... this 7 March 1714/5"... Edward Rose (mark), Rebecca Rose (mark), Ichabod Burge, Savorill [sic] Clifton, Dority Clifton (mark), Charity Packer (mark), John Hammond.
