John* BANCROFT^{2616,2617,2618,2619,2620} was born in 1596 in Swarkston on the Trent, Derbyshire, England.²¹⁵⁰ He died between 1637 and 1647 in Lynn, Essex Co., MA.¹⁷⁰⁷ He was christened in Challeston, Derbyshire, England. Arrived 12 Jun 1632 on the ship James from London, England. Resided in Lynn MA. By the record of the Court held at Boston, in 1633, it appears that, "Mr John Barcroft doeth acknowledge to owe vnto or Souaigne, the King, the some of xll. & Mr Samll Mauacke the som of xxl. &c. The condicon of this recognizance is, that Jane Barcroft, wife of the said John, shall be of good behavr towards all psons." George Bancroft, the eminent historian, is a lineal descendant from this Lynn planter.] John* BANCROFT and Jane* were married about 1622 in Lynn, Essex Co., MA.²⁶²¹

3215. Jane*^{1708,2622,2623} was born about 1601 in Swarkston, Debyshire, England. She died before Nov 1644. Arrived on the James in 1632. Awarded 100 acres of land at Lynn in 1668. He lived in 1654 "Lower Wharf", now Thompsonville (Enfield), Hartford Co, CT. He In Westfield, Hampden Co, MA, by the given year in 1668. He was Selectman & farmer while at Westfield between 1668 and 1680. He Removed back to Enfield, Hartford Co, CT in 1680. He sold a farm in Westfield, Hampden Co, MA in 1680.
