" In the name of God, Amen. I, Luke Thornton, of North Farnham Parish, in the County of Richmond, being weak in body but of sound and perfect memory, - thanks be to God for the same, do make this my last Will and testament, in manner and form, following:

First, I bequeath my soul to Almighty God, who gave it, hoping through the merits of my Savior Jesus Christ to obtain everlasting life; and as for my body I commit to the earth, to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named.

Imprimis: I will my just debts and funeral expenses to be paid out of my estate.

Item: I give to my son Thomas Thornton the land belonging to me in Westmoreland County, from a branch beyond Pantico, as goes to Mr. Sorrell's land where Joe Holliday now lives, to his heirsforever . . . I give to my grandson William Thornton a piece of land bound as follows, - from the fence where his mother now lives down to Pottage Pot and a water course to their spring, thence to a line which now divides his and my land, to him and to his heirs forever.

Item: I give to my grandson Mark Thornton the land where Richard Jones now lives, to go up a branch beyond Pantico, joining to the land given to my son Thomas Thornton.

Item: I give to my son Matthew Thornton, four head of cattle, the youngest to be three years old and the oldest not over ten years; also twenty shillings to buy him a ring.

Item: I give to my daughter Elizabeth Nash twenty shillings to buy her a ring.

Item: I give to my daughter Ann Mountjoy and my granddaughter Sarah Jones my negro man named Tony, during their natural lives, and at their decease give to my grandson Rowland Thornton and his heirs forever.

As for ye rest, residue and remainder of my estate, I give to my daughter Ann Mountjoy and my granddaughter Sarah Jones and their heirs forever, whom I also make, constitute and appoint mywhole and sole executors of this my last will and testament, in witness whereof I have set my sealand hand, ye 29th day of January, 1725.

Proved 2 Mar 1725 Listed in The Registers of North Farnham Parish 1663-1714 and in Lunenburg Parish 1683,1700. Witnessed the inventory of Thomas Foster 21 mar 1671/1672, Westmoreland Co., VA. Registered an earmark for his animals in Westmoreland Co., 26 Sep 1677, Later deeded land in 1679, 1681 and 1685 in Rappahannock Co., (later Richmond Co.) VA, where he had moved. Deeded more land with his son Luke , Jr in Westmoreland Co., 29 Mar 1700 by Randolph Kirk. Lawsuits from 1701 to 1704 about title to Westmoreland Co., land. Deed of 5 Oct 1725 and will of 29 Jan 1725/1726, probated 2 Mar 1725/1726 mentions this land..

1409. Anne*²⁰⁷⁶ was born about 1654 in North Farnham, Richmond Co., VA. Estimated date. She died about 1725 in North Farnham, Richmond Co., VA.²⁰⁷² Between 5 Oct 1725 and 29 Jan 1725/1726. She does not appear in a deed
that Luke Thornton made to his heirs. Listed in the Northfarnham Parish Register. Children were:

Luke THORNTON II2077 was born about 1676 in North Farnham, Richmond Co., VA.1411 He died in 1718 in North Farnham, Richmond Co., VA.2077 Between Jan and March because will was filed in Richmond Co, Court Records on 21 Mar 1725. Appears in a suit of 17 Jun 1699 in Richmond Co.. Moved to Orange Co., bef 1741. Margaret Thornton gave bond as administratrix of Luke Thornton's estate on 2 Apr 1718.
	ii.	Elizabeth THORNTON2078 was born between 1678 and 1680. She died in 1762 in Westmoreland, Co., VA.
	iii.	John B. THORNTON1411,2079 was born about 1678 in North Farnham, Richmond Co., VA. He died before 1692.
	iv.	Matthew THORNTON1411 was born in 1682 in North Farnham, Richmond Co., VA. He died in 1727 in North Farnham, Richmond Co., VA. or 1730. Named in Luke Thornton I will of 1725.
